OCEANSIDE, California, August 9, 2011 – Professional and volunteer builders alike have put down their hammers and power saws to celebrate the successful end of San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s 2011 Home Builders Blitz. On Friday, August 5th, Swinerton Builders and Habitat for Humanity dedicated two homes that were built from start to finish during the five day build.
Two new homeowner families were presented with housewarming gifts and keys to their completed homes at a ceremony that took place at Libby Lake Village in Oceanside. Joining Habitat, Swinerton and the families in celebration were Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood, Oceanside Housing Commission Chairperson Kay Parker, Oceanside Fire Chief Darryl Hebert and Margery Pierce, Director of the City of Oceanside Neighborhood Services Department, among other special guests.
“We are celebrating with our newest Habitat Partner Families who have worked so hard and will now experience the joy of homeownership,” said Chris Marek, Chief Officer of Development and Strategy at San Diego Habitat for Humanity. “The generosity and dedication of Swinerton Builders and our hundreds of volunteers was vital to making the week a success.”
Partner Families qualify for the homeownership program according to Habitat for Humanity’s family selection criteria – a demonstrated need for improved housing, the ability to repay a 0% mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat by completing 250-500 sweat-equity hours before moving into the homes.
The Blitz at Libby Lake Village marks the fourth and final phase of the community in Oceanside, which includes 5 homes. Habitat Partner Families have already moved in to the 15 completed homes.
